WE CALL GWES (2017)

WE CALL is a multi-iteration wall-text work. The text highlights some of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TAC) of Canada's Calls to Action, released in June 2015. For this site-specific work at the Gitksan Wet’suwet’en Education Society (GWES) in Hazelton, I selected and edited the calls that are directed towards government agencies responsible for education, post-secondary institutions and cultural organizations. The Calls chosen and edited for the space were done so in dialogue with, and in response to, the lived experiences of the Gitxsan and Wet'suwet'en communities. WE CALL was funded by BC Arts Council and the Canada Council. A parallel installation was produced at Simon Fraser University's Teck Gallery (2017-2018), and a re-articulation of this work was made at Upper Canada College in Toronto in 2018.
