WE CALL UCC (2018)
WE CALL is a multi-iteration wall-text work focusing on the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada's (TRC) 94 Calls to Action, released in June 2015.
For this site-specific iteration at the Upper Canada College in Toronto, I worked collaboratively with the students and teachers to develop a set of community endorsed responses to the TRC's Calls which were then permanently installed in the school.
Following it's 2018 installation and after a year of conversation, in 2022, Vesna Krstich asked if I would facilitate a two day trip bringing the UCC students to GWES to see the WE CALL work there and meet the Gitxsan students involved in it. This trip reactivated the project and brought the work into community. For a full project description of this work, the programming, and it's other iterations see my article "WE CALL" (ICCA, 2026).
WE CALL was funded by BC Arts Council and the Canada Council. In 2017, two versions of this work were produced at Simon Fraser University's Teck Gallery (2017-2018), and the Gitxsan Wet'suwet'en Education Society (GWES), in Hazelton.
