YOUR CHOICE (2008)

YOUR CHOICE uses supermarket packaging and display along with oversized vinyl banners found around the city to consider ideas about marketing and branding in the immediate aftermath of the Beijing 2008 Olympic games.

The book title comes from a loosely translated grocery store sign (image 3) in which '(we) recommend to you' becomes 'your choice.' The first half of the book focuses on the range of packaging and promotional techniques found in the Jinkelong supermarkets. Where as the second half of the book turns to the large vinyl banners which were used both as promotional material  for the Olympic games and to cover any unfinished construction projects around the city.

For her installation at Pickled Art Centre, Cathy Busby created her own large scale vinyl works from images of both this grocery store research and the large public vinyl documentation.

The publication Includes texts by Cathy Busby and Monika Vykoukal, and is available for purchase at Art Metropole
