BLOWBACK (2006)
BLOWBACK was created as a part of Public Acts. At the time, I was working on my poster project, The North End, and wanted to contribute back to the postering landscape I was drawing from.
Because this term "blowback" was starting to be used in the media more frequently at the time, referring to an instance where a forward moving action is followed by a kickback, or an unforeseen consequence, I decided to make a poster "announcement" about it.
I distributed these posters site-specifically across Halifax’s North End neighbourhood. The work had two pages, one with the word "BLOWBACK" and an accompanying page filled with wide-ranging citations and definitions which unpacked the term as it related to the context of the North End. At the time, the unintended consequences of Halifax's urban progress were becoming more noticeable; many people were getting priced out of their homes in these early stages of the city's gentrification and beginning to suffer from short-sighted developmental decision making.
