JINGLEFEST (2003)
Taking place at the Khyber Club (Halifax) in 2011, Jingle-fest! was a performance event centring advertising jingles. These musical catchy slogans marked by repetition—like "Air Canada, Canada, come see what you’ve been missing,” “Winston tastes good like a cigarette should,” and “We care about the shape you’re in…wonderful, wonderful, Wonderbra'—created a collective reminder of the ways consumer culture lodges itself in our heads.
An extension of Cathy Busby's larger research into consumer culture and branding, this event encouraged contestants to perform any advertising jingles they could recall before a panel of "judges" determined the "winners."
