On Que in Pantone Colours of the Year (2023)

The entrance and lobby of On Que was due for an update. I proposed to the strata that I could help and submitted a proposal for On Que in Pantone Colours of the Year, a site-specific wall painting.

Towards the end of every year Pantone, a colour creating mega-corporation, announces a Colour of the Year. Sometimes they chose two colours. This building houses a number of creatives: animators, designers, people in advertising, and artists; many of whom would be familiar with the Pantone colour system.

The buildings construction was completed in 2011 and I thought this work could be an index of its age. I chose a long span of wall across from the elevator because I liked the idea that elevator doors would open out to this flood of colour with a legend describing it's logic within easy view. Each block of colour is like an enlarged paint swatch and they are systematically arranged left to right by year from 2011-2023.
